Traditional pottery-making is active in Peninsular Malaysia and is found in several places. Deft hands and creative inspirations had shaped unique pots, mostly produced by the womenfolk.

The pot is made of soil found nearby the village. It is kneaded with water and stamped with unique designs which is then smoked and baked. The ready baked pot is obviously impressive looking with flora and geometric motifs on its surface. The paddy flower, bamboo shoot and clove flower are some of the traditional motifs stamped onto the surface of the pot.

The Labu Sayong pot is classic black and by its name is produced at a village called Sayong (in the district of Kuala Kangsar, Perak). The design is inspired by pumpkin which is cleaned from its flesh and used as a water container.

The Labu Sayong was popular for storing drinking water at homes. The cool water from the pot is believed to have healing properties especially fever. The pot is also kept as a decorative item or proudly given away as souvenir.
